During 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. Now, Liebherr has grown to become one of the top manufacturers in the field of construction equipment. The company has also gained the reputation of being the accredited provider of technically innovative user-oriented services and products in different fields. The company has now become a "Group" working in each and every continent with more than 130 companies and more than 35,000 workers all over the world.
In order to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. This set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by the Liebherr family members. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Ever since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation like: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These family members have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all over the world.
Hans Liebherr started to build his business during 1949, in a small town called Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations.
