During 1928 in La Clayette, France, the company Potain was born. Since then, Potain has been the world leader in tower crane production. They are responsible for over 100,000 cranes installed and sold all-around the globe. Now, the company manufacturers more than 60 models from various manufacturing facilities in China, France, Portugal, Germany and Italy. The business represents many different product ranges used for various applications. These equipments are sold through an international Manitowoc dealer network.

The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes range from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes that are larger and higher. These cranes vary from 7.98 to 64 tons. Furthermore, these are the largest special application cranes that are custom-designed. These models provide a reach capacity of one hundred sixty tons.

Several of the main innovations with the company include the LLC range of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The growing reputation of the company has expanded their appeal with various models. Potain cranes are usually found on traditional construction sites, bridge building projects, power stations, shipbuilding yards and ship-building projects.

Two of Manitowac's biggest facilities are based within the United States. Their manufacturing facility is based in Wisconsin. In this state, both crawler cranes and the tower crane components are made within Pennsylvania inside the Shady Grove plant. Here both mobile cranes and boom trucks are manufactured. Regional offices are situated within Mexico and within Brazil. What's more, the extensive dealer network located throughout Colorado and the USA offers support and coverage unrivalled by any other crane producer.
