Forklifts are vehicles normally found within warehouses, factories and other work sites where it is necessary to move heavy materials from one location to another. The mast is the mechanism located on the front of the forklift that hydraulically lowers and lifts the load. The "cat" is the area that is protected where the driver of the forklift sits.
Forklifts are capable of carrying loads between one and five tons in weight. Some models can be utilized to lift shipping containers and loads which are much heavier.
Forklift tires should be checked and maintained regularly. The types of tires on different forklifts differ according to factors such as weight of the loads, ground surfaces and frequency of use. Every driver of a forklift should have access to a forklift jack, tire press and replacement tires.
Tire Maintenance Instructions
You must regularly inspect the tires. Watch for signs of wear and damage to the tires. If the wear on the tire exceeds 40 percent, it must be replaced.
When you purchase tires, be sure you purchase the correct type - polyurethane, solid or pneumatic.
When the tire needs replacing, position the forklift jack under the tire and lift the forklift high enough that you can change the tires easily.
To remove the damaged tire, pull the tire from the rim utilizing the tire press. Install the new tire and properly secure it. If you are changing more than one tire and you just have one jack, lower the forklift, and after that reposition the jack at the next tire.
On-site tire repair could be performed by a repair company. If the tire is too large for both in-house and mobile tire presses, the tire which is damaged must be transported to a shop that has a stationary tire press.
