There are two basic kinds of lift trucks, models which run on gas and those that run on electricity:
IC or Internal Combustion Forklifts: The IC Forklifts run on liquid propane, gas, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. The gas powered units are made to be used outdoors as they emit gases and pollutants which can be harmful if inhaled. Models which run on gasoline are also suitable for application in bad weather and in the rain. These models can lift weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the fuel costs and maintenance, the gas powered models are a lot more expensive to use compared to models that run on electricity, although, they cost a lot less up front compared to the electric models. The liquid propane units are the best option to be used indoors.
Electric Forklifts: The electric lift truck models are powered by very big batteries which should be recharged. The vehicles do not create any polluting air emissions as these units do not burn any fuel. They are the right choice for indoor applications and warehouses. Also, electric lift trucks do not need any fuel storage units and they are much quieter to run than other models. Amongst the downsides of the electric units is that they could not lift cargo over 15,000 pounds and hence, have a slower acceleration than gasoline powered units.
Lift trucks are specially designed to quickly and easily move heavy loads with simplicity. Like the case with most types of machines, unfortunately, forklift accidents do happen regularly. There are specific safety regulations which need to be followed so as to keep everyone safe. The most essential concern is recruiting a trained operator, who will be able to show you a valid forklift license.
On the market these days, there are many different types of lift trucks available. Deciding which one is best for your particular needs would be based on the types of loads which you need to transport, what type of environment your equipment will need to operate in, for instance, indoors or outdoors or both. When you understand your specific requirements, it will be easy to match up to the best type of forklift. When you know all your requirements exactly you can make an accurate choice.
Leasing is another good way to try out various models if you want to try out different features and see what kind of options are available. This is a cheaper way to know if the equipment you have in mind can keep up with you on the job location.
